Week #2 of the open water season: 5/15-5/22
This week was similar to last. The jig and minnow (or Lindy rig) bite remained very strong on the rock to sand transitions in 15-18 FOW. I like to use a soft plastic when the fish are aggressive to trigger a few bigger bites. The fish were much more aggressive in the early morning hours as the bite would die off mid day. With that being said, the late afternoon and evening bite was nearly as good as the morning! As the sun gets up higher the fish moved down the break to 26-30 FOW.
For the bobber fishermen, that bite is picking up everyday. The fish are finally out of their spawning stage and setting up on their usual spring spots. Wind blown shallow points in 5-10 FOW have produced the most fish. A slip bobber with a minnow is still best, but I have had reports of fish being caught on leeches.
Overall the fishing has been good to great every single day on The Big V. We have had very nice spring weather and the fish are cooperating as they should. My clients and I are catching large numbers of fish each day and sorting through them to get a nice limit of eaters. My baits of choice this week were Northland Tackle Tungsten Jigs, Deep Vee Jigs, slip bobber rigs, and Z Man plastics.
This 24” beauty was caught in Pike Bay this week.
Check back in next Monday (5/29) to see next week’s fishing report!

I have been vacationing on Lake Vermillion for over 45 years. The past 10 years our time at The Glenmore has been a sheer delight. The facilities, hospitality, and service are outstanding as well as the excellent fishing. Throw in convenience to all the local activities and you have an outstanding vacation package.
